6.5km Fun Run/Walk – 6.5km Active Families – Mitre 10 MEGA Buggy Walk

  • The 6.5km events start from 9.15am.
  • Please arrive at Frank Kitts Park at least 30 minutes before the start time in order to familiarise yourself with the start area and hear the health and safety briefing prior to the 6.5km events starting.
  • Please ensure you are lined up at the correct event and area at the start line. There will be walking billboard signs indicating start areas for elite runners, runners, joggers, walkers, Active Families with scooters and Buggy Walkers.
  • For health and safety reasons we do require all scooters, buggys and non-racing wheelchairs to start at the back of the pack – your timing chip (located on the back of your bib – do not remove or fold this) will not be activated until you physically cross the start line mat. Therefore you are not at a disadvantage by starting further back.
  • Children 12 years and under are allowed to use a push scooter on course as long as they are wearing a helmet and accompanied by an adult at all times. We have a crowd control team who will be walking through the start area to ensure people are lined up in the correct area. Please follow their instructions if you are asked to move.
  • There is a section on the back of your bib to write your emergency contact information on. We highly recommend doing this for any children taking part in the event aged 14 years or under.
  • As you move forward towards the start line please be aware that the width of the area narrows to get everyone across the timing mat – please watch your step!
  • If you find yourself stuck in the wrong section, please move to the left hand side and let the faster participants through.
  • The 6.5km course follows the road the entire way from the start line to Kilbirnie Park.
  • All roads are closed for this event; however there may be vehicles on course including official vehicles or emergency service vehicles which may need to get through the crowd.
  • Please note the road closures and no parking areas on the course. These are listed on our website. Participants who park in spaces on-course are not permitted to drive through the course road closures, under any circumstances, until the roads have been officially re-opened.
  • Please run or walk on the road wherever possible – the footpath is open for the general public and you will need to share it with them.
  • A water station and toilets (including a disabled toilet) are situated on course at Balaena Bay.
  • Roads will be re-opening at 11.30am. Marshals will direct you to the footpath. After 11.30am, you will have to cross at the lights on the corner of Evans Bay Parade and Wellington Road. Marshals will be leaving the course at 1pm.
  • As you approach the finish line you will be directed by marshals to keep right to avoid Half Marathon and 10km runners.
  • Please ensure you prepare adequately for the event, including dressing suitably for the conditions.
